Baptism

baby parishioner

Baptism is our first, our vital encounter with Christ. This is when we connect with the life Christ has gained for us by his death and resurrection. By this encounter we die to sin and rise to new life. The new Christian receives this life as water is poured over their head, invoking God as Father, Son and Spirit. The anointing with the oil of chrism tells of our Christian calling to proclaim God's love, to give loving leadership and to worship. Most of us are baptised as babies, but many others come to Jesus later in life. An important element of the celebration is the giving of the name because that is how God calls us and reminds us of our uniqueness, our dignity.

If you want your child baptised, please contact us so we can arrange a time for the celebration. We will also help to prepare for the day, helping parents understand their role as Christian parents and the child's first teachers in faith.
