Carmelite Community

wilfrid mcgrealOriginally from Manchester, Wilfrid McGreal became a Carmelite friar in 1958 and was ordained a priest in 1964.  He arrived at our parish in December 2005.  He has a keen interest in ecumenism and communication. He became Prior Provincial of the British Province of Carmelites in March 2008.


piet wijngaardPiet Wijngaard became prior at Whitefriars in August 2008.  Originally from the Netherlands, he became a Carmelite in 1960 and was ordained a priest in 1965. He has been Prior Provincial, novice director, Parish Priest in Aberystwyth and subprior at Aylesford. He is an ardent lover of football. He is chaplain to the Shrine of St. Jude and a member of the Parish Team.


james sweeneyJames Sweeney made his profession as a Carmelite in 1989 and became a priest in 1996.  He came to Our Lady of Mount Carmel in 2006. A Londoner by birth, he has served in chaplancies for prison, school and hospital in the North.  He enjoys photography, walking and watching football. He was appointed parish priest in May 2008.


mike brookesMike Brookes is a former psychiatric nurse, counsellor and trainer. Born in Birmingham, he joined the Faversham community immediately after his profession as a Carmelite in August 2008 and is currently studying theology at the Franciscan Study Centre in Canterbury. His interests include walking, reading and cinema.
