All of us as Christians are called to service in our Christian community and the world at large. The call to ministry, service, flows from our baptism. Some are called to sacramental ministry as priests and deacons but most Christians live out their ministry through work and family life.

Since the Second Vatican Council collaborative ministry has flourished with people committing themselves to work within the community as catechists, administrators, readers and ministers of the Eucharist. The calling to be a teacher is an important role forming young people, while the caring professions continue Christ's healing work.

Whenever people inspired by the love of Christ serve others, Christian ministry is alive and active. From keeping the church clean and tidy, arranging flowers, singing the praise of God with heartelt devotion to visiting the housebound and reaching out in mission, the variety of ministries exercised by the Church form a bond of unity that has Christ at the centre.
